Barista & Coffee Roasting Training
TRAINING
For our wholesale clients and their employees, absolutely yes and absolutely free. We can teach you how to make a classic latte, as well as how to best brew coffee.
OUR CREDENTIALS
Aside from the school of hard knocks (aka Alexarc's 20 years working with coffee), Alexarc and Teri founded and operated The Black Drop Coffeehouse for seven years. Alexarc has been trained as a barista competition judge by United States Barista Championship standards (also Canadian Barista Championship standards, which are pretty much the same!) Alexarc served as a judge for both regional and national competitions, focusing primarily on technical precision. We achieved the little known but really hard to get Golden Cup Award from the Specialty Coffee Association of America for excellence in specialty coffee retailing, which measured not just our coffee quality, but water quality and appropriate parts per million in the brew. We have also conducted many cupping sessions for our staff, our retailers' staff, and just plain ol' enthusiasts.
Did we start out this way? Hell no, we started out just like you. We knew enough to know that we didn't know enough.. The Drop was a great ride with a steep learning curve, but we must have figured something out because we started being voted Bellingham's Best in the Cascadia Weekly kind of often. It warms our hearts that they are still pulling it off today. We invested heavily in learning as much as possible by participating in coffee communities like the SCAA, Coffee Fest, and online forums like Coffeegeek. We learned a lot about building not just customers, but champions of our brand and product. We learned how to develop a vibrant cafe culture. We learned how to roast and prepare great coffee! Basically, we learned stuff from people who knew stuff. We can be the people who know stuff for you.
